Eska Falls Hike Recap: A Challenging Journey to Waterfall Views

On Sunday, June 1st, TrailMates set out to tackle the rugged beauty of Eska Falls. Despite the trail’s reputation for being challenging—9.9 miles out-and-back with 2,339 ft of elevation gain—our small but mighty group made the most of this summer adventure.

Trail leader Leo Overduyn was joined by Anni B. for this peaceful and rewarding day on the trail. Even though it was just the two of them (plus Leo’s pup!), they embraced the solitude and the trail’s wild magic.

Perfect Trail Conditions and Spring Flowers

Leo shared his thoughts after the hike:

“Group hike to Eska Falls yesterday! Trail was in great shape, light breeze, and no mosquitoes 🦟! Only me and Anni on the hike, no one else showed up! Great trip—9 miles, and spring flowers 🌸 everywhere!”

From the first steps on the trail, Eska Falls delivered everything we love about summer hiking in Alaska—lush green valleys, vibrant wildflowers, and the roar of cascading waterfalls. With the snow gone and the trail in perfect condition, this hike was a true highlight of the early summer season.

A Quiet, Powerful Day on the Trail

What made this hike special wasn’t just the epic scenery—it was the quiet moments of connection and appreciation for Alaska’s wild spaces. Leo’s dog posed for some adorable photos, reminding us that adventure is better with a friend—two-legged or four! 🐾
