When a Trail Feels More Like an Obstacle Course
Let’s be real: Chutes & Ladders isn’t your typical Saturday stroll. It’s muddy, steep, and a little wild—but that’s exactly what makes it so fun. On a chilly fall morning, hike leader Adolph gathered a stoked crew of TrailMates ready to take on the canyon.
This hike, tucked away in Girdwood’s lush forest, throws a bit of everything at you—rope climbs, slick rocks, mossy boulders, and a waterfall that looks straight out of a fantasy movie. The day started with jokes and cautious steps, but pretty soon, everyone was knee-deep in adventure mode—slipping, laughing, and helping each other through the canyon like one big team.
Adventure Level: “Hold My Hiking Pole”

There’s something about trails like this that brings out everyone’s inner kid. The first rope descent got a few nervous laughs, but after that? Total flow. People called out “You got this!” and “Step to the left, that rock’s solid!” as the group snaked down into the canyon.
The moss-covered walls towered above, rainwater trickling down the rock face, and every now and then, someone stopped just to take it all in. It was the kind of hike where you can’t check your phone or think about errands—you’re too busy living in the moment.
Teamwork Makes the Trail Work

The photo says it all—boots on wet rock, hands gripping ropes, and a whole crew moving together through the canyon. What makes these hikes special isn’t just the challenge—it’s how everyone shows up for each other.
You might come alone, but it never stays that way. Someone’s always offering a hand, sharing a snack, or cracking a joke when the climb gets real. That’s TrailMates energy: showing up for yourself and your crew.
Why Getting a Little Muddy Is Good for the Soul
There’s a reason we chase hikes like this—it’s not just for the Instagram shot (though, let’s be honest, this one’s feed-worthy). It’s because being outside resets something in us. The focus it takes to climb, the laughter that breaks up the quiet, the moment you look around and realize you’re part of something bigger—it’s medicine for the mind.

Your Turn to Join the Fun
The Chutes & Ladders hike was proof that the best adventures happen when you show up, even if it’s muddy, even if you’re a little nervous.
