Looking for a gritty climb with epic city-to-alpine views? Join TrailMates for a summit push up O’Malley Peak — one of Anchorage’s most iconic ridges. This is a challenging 9-mile out-and-back hike with nearly 3,300 feet of elevation gain, rocky scrambles, and a steep ascent that’s best suited for experienced hikers.

We’ll start from Glen Alps and climb past Blueberry Hill and the Ballpark before heading up O’Malley’s rugged ridge. Expect big effort and even bigger reward — sweeping views over the Anchorage Bowl, Cook Inlet, and the Chugach Range.

🎒 What to Bring:

  • Sturdy hiking boots with good grip (trail gets rocky!)

  • Trekking poles (helpful on the descent)

  • 2–3 liters of water

  • Snacks or a packed lunch

  • Wind/rain layers — the summit can be exposed and chilly

  • Hat, sunscreen, and optional gloves for scrambling

🚗 Parking: Park at the Glen Alps/Flattop parking lot — State Parks day pass ($5) or annual pass required.

This is a tough and rewarding climb with a supportive crew — if you love a physical challenge and a summit moment, this one’s for you!
