About the event
North Face of Alyeska ⛰️🚠 (Earn the view, ride the tram down)
If you like your hikes with a little burn and a big payoff, this one’s for you.
We’re heading up the North Face of Mount Alyeska! This is a steep, no-fluff climb that gets your heart rate up fast and rewards you with some of the best views in Girdwood and the surrounding Chugach Mountains.
This is a straight-up leg burner: 2.3 miles up with ~2,030 ft of elevation gain. It’s short-ish, but it does not play nice. You’ll feel it. But so will the view at the top.
And here’s the best part… we’re not hiking down. Once we’re done at the summit, we’ll hang out, grab food/drinks, use the facilities, and then ride the Alyeska Tram back down for free like the smart people we are.
Hike Details:
Distance: 2.3 miles one way (up only)
Elevation Gain: ~2,030 ft
Difficulty: Challenging
Date: July 25, 2026
Start Time: 2:00 PM
Max Group Size: 20 hikers
Meet-Up Location: We’ll meet behind the Alyeska Resort next to the tram lift. Show up a few minutes early so we can roll out together.
Hike Leader: Ron Bates

What to Expect / Bring:
Water (more than you think you need)
Snacks
Good hiking shoes (this is steep)
Layers- weather changes fast up there
Rain/wind shell
Trekking poles (helpful, not required)
Sunscreen + sunglasses
Phone/camera for summit views
A little stubbornness (you’ll need it on the way up)
Trail reference: AllTrails – Mount Alyeska Trail
This is a “you’ll curse it on the way up but talk about it later like it was fun” kind of hike. Big effort. Bigger payoff.
