Join us for an adventurous climb up McHugh Peak from Bear Valley! This hike will challenge you with steep terrain, but the breathtaking views of the Cook Inlet and surrounding peaks make every step worth it.

📍 Trailhead: Bear Valley (Limited parking – carpooling highly encouraged!)

👟 Led by: Erin Berg


Hike Details:

  • Distance: ~5.6 miles round-trip

  • Elevation Gain: ~2,300 ft

  • Difficulty: Challenging – Steep sections, loose rock, and some scrambling required

  • Estimated Duration: 4 hours


What to Bring:

Microspikes (conditions may be icy or snowy at higher elevations)

Trekking poles (helpful for stability on steep terrain)

Layers (weather can shift quickly – bring windproof/waterproof gear)

Gloves & Hat (temps can be cooler at the top)

Plenty of Water & Snacks (high-effort hike means staying fueled)

Sturdy Hiking Boots (good grip needed for loose sections)


🚗 Carpooling Highly Encouraged! Parking is very limited at the Bear Valley trailhead, so plan to ride with others if possible. Join the group to coordinate rides!
