About the event
Eklutna Lakeside Wander – Winter Views & Community Connection
Looking for a way to embrace the Alaskan winter without the steep mountain climb? Join us for a refreshing trek along the Eklutna Lakeside Trail! This is a wonderful opportunity to get outside, meet fellow outdoor enthusiasts, and enjoy the stunning, icy blues of Eklutna Lake in a warm and inclusive environment.
This hike is family-friendly and perfect for those looking for a manageable but beautiful winter outing. We’ll follow the shoreline, taking in the towering peaks above us while staying on relatively level ground.

Trail Notes & What to Bring
While the trail is flat, winter in the Chugach can be unpredictable! The lakeside path may be icy in some spots, so we want to make sure everyone stays upright and cozy.
Traction: Microspikes or ice cleats are very helpful for those slick patches.
Footwear: Sturdy, insulated winter shoes or boots.
Support: Trekking poles (optional, but great for balance).
Layers: Bring plenty of layers, water, and maybe a thermos of something hot to enjoy!
Parking & Meeting Info
We’ll meet at the Eklutna Trailhead at 11:00 AM. Please remember there is a $5 parking fee for Chugach State Park (unless you have an annual decal).
