About the event
Twin Peaks | Eklutna – Winter Ascent & Sledding Adventure!
Ready to challenge your legs and treat your soul? Join TrailMates for a winter trek up the iconic Twin Peaks trail. This hike is all about community, grit, and if you’re up for it the absolute thrill of sledding back down!
We’ll be heading up to the first bench, which offers some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Eklutna Lake and the surrounding Chugach peaks. While the distance is modest, don't let that fool you; this is a steady, heart-pumping climb that will definitely earn you those summit snacks.

The Details
Distance: ~2.5 miles (to the first bench and back)
Elevation Gain: 2,000+ feet
Difficulty: Challenging
Estimated Time: 3+ hours
Trail Type: Out and back
Hike Leader: Christina
What to Expect
The terrain will be snow-covered and steep. We’ll take a steady pace, supporting one another as we navigate the incline. Once we reach the bench, we’ll soak in the views before our descent. Pro tip: Bring a sled! The trail down can be a total blast if the conditions are right.
Gear & Essentials
To ensure everyone stays safe and warm, please come prepared with:
Traction: Microspikes or crampons are required for the icy/packed sections.
Support: Trekking poles are highly recommended for the steep grade.
Layers: Wicking base layers, an insulating middle layer, and a windproof outer shell.
Fuel: Plenty of water and high-energy snacks.
The Fun Factor: A lightweight sled for the way down!
Parking & Meeting Info
We will meet at the Eklutna Lake Trailhead at 11:00 AM. Please note that a Chugach State Park parking pass is required (or the daily $5 parking fee).
