Planning to join the Crow Pass Overnight Adventure? Or just curious about how to pack and prepare for your first backpacking trip? Join us for a casual, in-person prep workshop at Glen Alps!


We’ll gather in the parking lot to walk through what to pack, how to plan for river crossings and unpredictable weather, and answer all your backpacking questions. You’ll get to see sample gear, swap ideas, and connect with others heading out on the adventure.

🏕️ TrailMates Basic Overnight Packing List

We'll share a printed packing list at this workshop! We recommend bringing your gear to practice carrying your load.

Essentials

  • 🎒 Backpack (50–65L recommended)

  • 🛏️ Tent or shelter (lightweight, weather-resistant)

  • 🛌 Sleeping bag (rated to 30°F or lower)

  • 🧘 Sleeping pad (for insulation and comfort)

  • 🔥 Stove + fuel (small backpacking stove)

  • 🍳 Cookware (pot, utensil, lighter)

  • 🥣 Bowl, mug, and utensil set

  • 💧 Water bottles or hydration bladder (2–3L total capacity)

  • 💧 Water filter or purification tablets


Clothing (layered for Alaskan weather)

  • 🧥 Waterproof rain jacket

  • 🧤 Warm midlayer (fleece or puffy)

  • 👕 Base layers (top and bottom)

  • 🧦 Wool or synthetic socks (2–3 pairs)

  • 🩳 Hiking pants or leggings

  • 👖 Camp clothes (dry set to sleep in)

  • 🧢 Hat, gloves, and buff or neck gaiter

  • 👟 Trail shoes or boots (broken-in)

  • 👡 Camp shoes / water shoes (for river crossings)


Food

  • 🍽️ 2 days of meals (dinner, breakfast, snacks, and lunch)

  • 🥜 High-calorie trail snacks (bars, jerky, nuts, dried fruit)

  • 🗑️ Trash bag for packing out all waste


Safety & Navigation

  • 🧭 Map/GPS or downloaded offline trail map

  • 🔦 Headlamp (with extra batteries)

  • 🧰 First aid kit

  • 🐻 Bear-proof storage (canister or bag + rope for hanging)

  • 🛠️ Multi-tool or knife

  • 📱 Fully charged phone (consider a battery bank)


Optional but Recommended

  • 🦟 Bug spray

  • 🌞 Sunscreen + sunglasses

  • 🚽 Toilet paper + trowel or wag bag

  • 🚰 Electrolyte tablets or drink mix

  • 🏕️ Lightweight tarp (for extra shelter or dry area)
