About the event

California Creek Trail

Ready to get your heart rate up in a winter wonderland? Join TrailMates and our hike leader, Adolph, for a trek up the California Creek Trail! This is a short but mighty hike that rewards your effort with stunning forest scenery and that crisp Girdwood air.

This trail is perfect for those who love a steady climb. While the distance is manageable, the "hard" rating comes from the elevation gain over a short distance! It's an empowering way to spend a Saturday morning with a supportive community.

The Details

  • Distance: 3.4 miles

  • Elevation Gain: 1,056 ft

  • Difficulty: Hard

  • Estimated Time: 2.5 hours

  • Trail Type: Out and back

  • Hike Leader: Adolph

What to Expect

We’ll be winding through beautiful wooded terrain. Because of the steepness and likely winter conditions, the trail can be slick and challenging. We’ll keep the vibes high and the pace steady!

Gear & Essentials

To keep you safe and comfortable on this steep winter ascent, please bring:

  • Traction: Microspikes or crampons are highly recommended for the incline.

  • Support: Trekking poles will be your best friend on the way up and down.

  • Layers: Moisture-wicking layers and a warm jacket for when we stop to take in the views.

  • Hydration: Water and a quick snack.

Parking & Meeting Info

Meeting Location: We will meet at the Double Musky Inn parking lot. Note: The actual trailhead has very limited parking, so meeting here allows us to coordinate before heading to the start. Please arrive a few minutes early so we can gather the group!
