About the event

TrailMates Presents: Avalanche Awareness for Hikers

In Partnership with Joe Stock, IFMGA Mountain Guide

TrailMates is proud to host an event dedicated to keeping our hiking community safe this winter. While many avalanche clinics focus on skiers, TrailMates is bringing you a session specifically designed for hikers. Join us at Anchorage Brewing Company to learn how to identify local hazards and navigate Alaska’s winter terrain with confidence.

Why Attend?

At TrailMates, we believe the best adventures are the ones where everyone gets home safely. This presentation focuses on the specific needs of the hiking community:

  • Hiker-Specific Safety: Recognizing terrain traps and "red flags" on the trails you actually hike.

  • Local Knowledge: A deep dive into Chugach-area trails and local winter hazards.

  • Expert Instruction: Joe Stock will be on-site with copies of his Avalanche Safety Book for those who want to study further.

Meet the Organizers & Speakers

  • TrailMates: Your local group for organized community led-hikes and outdoor education. Led by Pete Devaris, TrailMates is committed to making the Alaskan outdoors accessible and safe for everyone.
