About the event

Government Peak to April Bowl Traverse ⛰️✨

If your idea of a good Saturday includes earning your views, this hike has your name written all over it.

Join TrailMates for one of the biggest adventures on our summer calendar, Government Peak to April Bowl traverse that takes us across alpine ridgelines, through wide-open mountain views, and all the way down to Summit Lake. The meeting is at GPRA and you will need to leave a car at April bowl. Please coordinate early!

This isn't your average hike. We'll climb Government Peak first (yes...we're getting the hard part out of the way 😅), then spend the rest of the day cruising the ridgeline toward April Bowl before finishing at Summit Lake.

It's a long day, a big climb, and one of those hikes you'll probably be talking about long after your legs recover.

Hike Details

  • Distance: ~7.6 miles

  • Elevation Gain: ~3,376 ft

  • Difficulty: Challenging

  • Estimated Time: Around 6 hours

  • Date: August 8, 2026

  • Start Time: 10:00 AM

  • Max Group Size: 12 hikers

Meet-Up

We'll meet at the Government Peak Recreation Area parking lot before heading out.

Transportation

This is a one-way hike, so we'll need to coordinate rides before we start.

You'll either:

  • Leave a vehicle at Summit Lake before the hike, or

  • Catch a ride back to Government Peak after we finish.

We'll help everyone get coordinated before we head out.
